1 / Mechanical Engineer

​​The Mechanical Engineer position plans and designs mechanical assemblies for automation and robotics projects. This position is responsible for organizing highly complex activities for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of engineering projects in accordance with BOS and applicable governing standards.

​

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conceptualizes and designs highly complex automation machinery, robotic cells and material handling systems, including development and checking of technical specifications, drawings and bills of material.

  • Creates 3D part/assembly models and details drawings for manufacture per design best practices using Solidworks.

  • Manages the scope of work for mechanical design on customized projects, including planning, supervising project work, and verifying designs to ensure effective performance of the work.

  • Supports fabrication, testing and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.

  • Provides guidance and direction in technical risk evaluation, functional composition, and interface management as part of the design team.

  • Provides technical expertise in automation and equipment engineering practices.

  • Ensures commitments on projects are met including cost, schedule, function, performance, serviceability, and appearance.

  • Delivers complete and accurate designs within the allotted time.

  • Supports sales activities including initial customer meetings, design conceptualization, hours estimating and quote generation.

  • Develops and maintains positive customer relations.

  • Knows and follows all safety rules, such as safe work practices and standard operating procedures.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university.

  • One (1) year of 3D CAD design (e.g., Solidworks, AutoCAD Inventor, Pro/Engineer) that includes modeling and automation systems design experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSMET) from an accredited college or university.

  • One (1) year of mechanical engineering experience in automation.

  • Strong precision machine design background.

  • Experience with specifying Pneumatic/Electric actuators and force loading calculations.

  • Solidworks experience preferred.

  • Experience with project management methods, practices and tools including scoping, facilitations, delegation, and risk management best practices.

  • Substantial knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes such as machining, grinding, welding, hand assembly, fasteners, etc.

 

GENERAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant experience with fixed automation and/or robotic assembly system concept development and design.

  • Experience working within cross-functional teams to handle multiple priorities and meet scheduled milestones.

  • Ability to accurately estimate the level of effort required to complete a design on time and within budget.

  • Possesses a desire and capability to coach and mentor interns and other engineering partners.

  • Demonstrated mechanical component and assembly design experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in engineered component selection and major equipment specification development.

2 / Automation Assembly Team Leader

The Automation Assembly Team Leader position organizes and directs the building of custom mechanical systems for industrial robotic automation projects. This position is responsible for organizing and performing highly complex production activities of multiple engineering projects and stakeholders in accordance with BOS and applicable governing standards.

​

The Automation Assembly Team Leader is responsible for working from Solid Works/e-drawing, 2D mechanical, and electrical prints to assemble fabricated parts, purchased components, and wiring into custom builds for our customers. The project process will frequently require the team leader to assist in organization of the materials and moderate fabrication duties. This job requires the applicant to work closely with the mechanical and electrical engineering teams on the assembly process. In addition, this role works closely with others to execute testing procedures on the assembled automation systems. This position will be expected to help the production team with the scheduling and prioritization of tasks. They will also be expected to take the lead on troubleshooting design issues and delivering production-based resolutions on assigned tasks.

​

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads assembly team and adheres to the BOS production process, including meeting deadlines and quality specifications per the direction of the Leadership Team.

  • Organizes and directs the building of highly complex automation machinery, robotic cells and material handling systems, including developing and checking of project schedules, organizing resources, and maintaining schedules.

  • Leads assigned assembly personnel.

  • Assembles machinery, fabricated parts, electrical equipment, and more according to designs from the engineering team.

  • Assists with production and project work by managing assigned tasks.

  • Interprets technical documents, such as diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.

  • Aligns, fits, or assembles component parts using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, or templates. Builds ethernet connections, places/mounts/wires sensors

  • Attends production meetings and provides updates to the Project Manager and Leadership Team on production tasks and resource allocation.

  • Works in conjunction with the Facility Manager to organize the production facility, including documentation locations, and maintains/improves production workflows.

  • Performs quality audits on projects.

  • Assists with on-site installation activities.

  • Trains and develops automation assembly technicians.

  • Develops and maintains positive relations with suppliers, customers, and BOS team members.

  • Collaborates with other team members and uses creative problem-solving skills to work through challenges

  • Completes production tasks as time allows.

  • Knows and follows all safety rules, such as safe work practices and standard operating procedures.

  • Conducts quality inspections on products and parts.

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

TEAM LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Up to six team members to coordinate for automation equipment machine builds.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Three (3) years of production experience.

  • Strong computer skills, particularly with the MS Office Suite.

  • Knowledge of safety standards for a manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, grinding, metal cutting, hand assembly, and fastener selection.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) years of experience supervising direct reports.

  • E drawing or comparable CAD experience.

  • Experience building and maintaining robotic manufacturing cells.

  • Experience with managing project build sequences (e.g. delegation, facilitation).

  • Experience with automation or manufacturing related design.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot electrical wiring.

  • Experience with basic electrical assembly, including building ethernet connections and wiring/placement of sensors

  • Knowledge of automation and manufacturing processes and designs.

  • Experience with assembly tools and materials.

  • Experience in a manufacturing/assembly environment.

  • Demonstrated experience with electronics assembly, soldering, and torque-controlled devices.

  • Demonstrated experience with root-cause and troubleshooting.

3 / Senior Automation Assembly Technician

The Senior Automation Assembly Technician is responsible for working from Solid Works/e-drawing, 2D mechanical, and electrical prints to assemble fabricated parts, purchased components, and wiring into custom builds for our customers. The project process will frequently require the technician to assist in organization of the materials and moderate fabrication duties. This job requires the technician to work closely with the mechanical and electrical engineering teams on the assembly process. In addition, this technician works closely with others to execute testing procedures on the assembled automation systems. This position will be expected to help the production team with the scheduling and prioritization of tasks. They will also be expected to take the lead on troubleshooting design issues and delivering production-based resolutions on assigned tasks.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs mechanical and electrical assembly of machinery, sub-assemblies, fabricated parts, and control equipment in accordance with engineering designs, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

  • Routes and terminates cables and wiring harnesses, including Ethernet, sensor wiring, control wiring, and power distribution.

  • Builds and installs electrical panels, junction boxes, and sensor/control devices, ensuring proper grounding, labeling, and cable management.

  • Interprets and works from technical documents such as assembly drawings, wiring schematics, panel layouts, and mechanical blueprints.

  • Aligns, fits, and assembles components using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and templates.

  • Performs in-process quality checks on wiring continuity, polarity, and mechanical alignment to ensure compliance with safety and design standards.

  • Supports troubleshooting and corrective action during build, testing, and system run-off.

  • Documents build progress and modifications, maintaining accurate technical and operational records.

  • Collaborates with engineering, controls, and assembly team members to resolve mechanical or electrical issues during builds.

  • Prepares completed systems for shipment by disassembling, protecting, and packaging equipment as needed.

  • Installs and wires equipment at customer sites, assisting with start-up and integration.

  • Maintains work area organization by adhering to 5S and safety standards.

  • Follows all electrical and mechanical safety practices, including lockout/tagout and PPE use.

  • Performs other duties as assigned to support production and project goals.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma, or GED.

  • Basic ability in mathematics, reading, and writing.

  • Software proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365.

  • Experience with hand tools and fabrication equipment such as plasma tables, CNC, welder, brake press, and band saws.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Must be able to work well as a productive member of a team.

  • Ability to properly maintain and perform basic repairs on equipment.

  • One year experience in manufacturing, assembly, or other related fields.

  • Ability to cut to size and assemble t-slot frames such as 8020.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot electrical wiring.

  • Experience with basic electrical assembly, including building ethernet connections and wiring/placement of sensors.

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field from an accredited university or college; preferably automation systems and robotics.
